ADD/ADHD: What you don’t know may surprise you.

by healthybydesignblog

One of the most fascinating things I have learned since my involvement with Shaklee is in regards to this thing called ADD or ADHD. First of all, if you are a parent of a kid who has had this label put on them, let me tell you that this kid is most likely very bright, and highly intelligent. In fact, the analogy has been made to me, that their brains are like high performance race car engines. So what’s the problem then? Nutrition! When we feed these high performance engines sugary cereals and soda, processed meats, etc., it’s like putting gasoline that has water in it, in one of these race car engines. What will happen? Major behavioral problems.

So what does the medical community want to do, but put your kids on Ritalin. Most people, including me, thought that these drugs slowed kids down, but it couldn’t be further from the truth. Ritalin is nothing but amphetamines, that’s right, it’s SPEED. I was so shocked. Why does it work? It works because that high powered engine of a mind, whose intellectual capacity is up there, has just had his physical capacity sped up by the amphetamine. So now, the physical and the intellectual are on the same plane, so to speak.

The good news, is that you can accomplish the exact same thing with nutrition. That means cutting out the junk, and putting in fruits and vegetables, and vitamin supplementation. In fact, one of the most common comments I get from new adult customers who begin taking the multi-vitamin is that they’ve never had so much energy. Now don’t freak out, if your kid is already a handful in regards to physical activity. Really and truly, it’s mental clarity as much as anything, more so than physical energy. When your mind is clear, it’s easier to get motivated, to get things done.

So what happens when you put “the good gas”, not the cheap gas, in the high performance engine? You win! Ditch the hot dogs, the chicken nuggets, the frozen food, and replace with fruits, vegetables and Shaklee Incredavites multi-vitamins for kids, and prepare to be amazed.

Now, do plan to give this a little bit of time. Don’t expect change to be over night, and don’t try to accomplish all these goals in a few days. You and your family have developed eating habits over a period of many years, and it will take some time not only to change your kid’s habits, but your own as well. Try limiting or cutting out soda first and encourage them to drink water. Are YOU drinking water? Step by step, one day at at a time, work towards your goal of healthier eating for your family.

By the way, nutrition has also been shown to help children with Austism as well! There is an amazing connection between your intestinal tract and your mind.

One frightening statistic regarding kids today, is that 1 out of 3 kids today WILL NOT LIVE AS LONG AS THEIR PARENTS!!!. This is talking about AMERICAN kids! It’s because of all these hot dogs and chicken nuggets – the preservatives in them, the steroids, antibiotics, and growth hormones that are in them, and the vitamins that are NOT in them. I know we’re all busier than ever, but your child’s health, quality of life, and even lifespan are greatly affected by what you serve them for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I can hear it now. “My kids won’t eat vegetables!” Your kids will eat what they’re exposed to. You keep putting vegetables in front of them, and encourage them to try it each time, they will develop a taste for them. The best thing is to start small children out on healthy food from the very beginning. This is too important to wimp out on. Suck it up, put your “big girl panties on”, do whatever it takes to get real food, not just stuff that looks like food but has no nutrient content, in your kids!!! And don’t forget the Shaklee Incredivites, or Vita Lea Ocean Wonders multi-vitamins. That’s the EASY part! There’s your big red EASY BUTTON right there. Contact me and I’ll answer any questions you may have. Our kids deserve our best efforts!

Athlete’s Vitamins Caused Her To Be Banned From Olympics

by healthybydesignblog

Olympic Athletes, as you know, do not take cheap supplements. So if she was at risk, how about you? Can you trust the company that manufactures yours?

Jessica Hardy is an American Olympic Swimmer, holding the world record in the 50m and 100m breaststroke. After joinging thd US Olympic Swim Team in 2008, she was not allowed to compete in the Olympics when an illegal substance was found in her system. A third party lab confirmed that the illegal substance “clenbuterol” was found in her vitamin supplements. She got her reputation back, but she missed the Olympics that year.

More Olympic Athletes
Trust Shaklee Quality

Athletes like Gary Hall, have a much different story to tell. A Type 1 diabetic, he had been told due to his health limitations, he would never be able to compete in the Olympics. BUT, he won a Gold in the 2004 Summer Olympics for the 50 meter freestyle. Gary was also 29 years old at the time, competing against much younger athletes.

Eli Bremer
is amazing. He fences, swims, rides horses, runs, and shoots. It’s hard to believe that this top-ranking pentathlete went from being an overweight kid with limited athletic ability to competing among the world’s best in the Beijing Games in 2008. For him, it’s about setting goals and having something to work toward.

Kent Bostick took up cycling in his mid 20s. More than 30 years later, he’s still pedaling strong. He placed first in the 2009 USA Cycling Masters Road National Championship, is a world-record holder, and received the 2009 Best All-Around Rider Award for the 55–59 age group. What’s it like to beat someone who’s almost half your age? “All right,” he says modestly. But for this 56-year-old, the focus isn’t so much about winning. “It’s about staying healthy and having a good workout,” he says. “Shaklee products help me achieve both.* Time Magazine includes Kent in an interesting article called  “More Than Athletes”.

Cows & Chickens: You’re Eating Whatever They’ve Eaten

by healthybydesignblog

How are diseases like cancer actually encouraged by our modern diet?

I’m a country girl, and when I was little, my granddaddy had cows out in the pasture eating grass. Grass contains Omega 3s, which fight inflammation. Chickens, too, when allowed to do their own thing, will eat grass and bugs. That’s what is meant when you see the term “free range”.

Most of the meat we eat now, is not only full of antibiotics, chemicals, and growth hormones, which are bad for us, too – especially processed meat – but the meat (or egg) is now missing a natural balance between Omega 3s and Omega 6s. We are now eating meat with almost no Omega 3s, and very high in Omega 6. Omega 3s FIGHT inflammation, Omega 6s PROMOTE inflammation. Inflammation is the root of many diseases, particularly arthritis and cancer, etc.

After WWII, farming and agriculture methods changed and instead of cows and chickens being able to feed in lush green pastures, the demand for meat was so high, large farming organizations wanted to speed up the production. Pasture grass feeding was not a cheap way of doing things, as it takes a lot of grass to feed these large animals. The cows and chickens were moved indoors in most cases on a cement floor and fed corn. The animals grew bigger and faster as a result, and the natural balance of Omega 3 and Omega 6 in our meat was never the same. (For more information on this, see the book mentioned below, Anti-cancer.)

Genetically Modified Foods (GMO)

Now, one final thing about this subject. Not only are the animals corn fed now rather than grass fed, the corn that they are being fed is genetically modified (GMO). This means that scientists have taken a plant DNA, and spliced it with DNA from BACTERIA, VIRUSES, AND ANIMALS. One result of this process, is that the bacteria in our gut becomes contaminated with this human-engineered stuff. See the plant DNA is combined with the DNA from Bacteria and Viruses, so that it will produce it’s own toxins to kill the bugs that are trying to eat it. An expert explained to us this weekend, that the bacteria in our gut splices genes, too, and we can literally begin to produce our own toxins as a result of consuming GMO foods. One of the world’s largest companies known for GMO foods was literally run out of Germany recently, and guess where they relocated? Raleigh, NC!

Guess what else is full of GMO corn, many of the cereals you and your kids are eating for breakfast. But that’s a topic for another day.
